Any Port in a Storm

Honolulu Bar
Proving Ground Road, Arizona

The drive from Oregon to New Mexico has taken a turn for the retro. With all of Arizona’s rest stops closed and 21 of 28 state parks chain linked and concertina-wired, traveling across the Mojave Desert is a throwback to the  1970’s when the only gas station was at 29 Palms.

The Honolulu Bar is the lone outpost in a service-less landscape of rusting panel trucks and constant wind. It’s 4 miles down Proving Ground Road where the paving and the world seems to end.
