Basic Flour Tortillas

With all the good fresh tortillas available, I rarely make my own but it’s so worth the trouble if you’ve got the knack and want to play around with the ingredients.

2 cups flour ~(try substituting a few tablespoons of dark rye flour or coarse graham flour)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 tbsp. shortening or lard
1/2 cup warm water

1. Mix flour salt and baking powder, cut in shortening. Add water and mix well. Knead dough until soft.  Cut into small balls and roll out on lightly floured board.

2. Cook on hot lightly greased griddle until lightly browned on each side. Cover with clean towel to keep warm and soft until serving.

    I made this recipe and really don’t have much of flavor..i add more water and salt.i will play more and see the how it turns..

      This was my mom’s recipe and she was a very plain cook. Thanks for letting me know you tried it!
