Roanaoke Exit Scones ~ Seattle Vintage Menu

In Seattle in the ’80’s, there were a couple of places on Eastlake for breakfast that were regular stops for us. One was the original Julia’s 14 Carrots  and the other was Dianne Symms‘ Roanaoke Exit.

Julia’s took the prize for the sourdough pancakes. Scones were another matter entirely and for those the only place was the Roanoke. Those scones made want to experiment.  Thousands of scones later, I still give credit to the Roanoake.

Neither of them are there on Eastlake. Dianne sold her cafe to focus on her next venture, Lombardi’s on West Market Street in Ballard, but her old menu is still wonderful.

    As I eat yet another scone that does not compare with the scones I still crave from the Roanoke Exit in Seattle back in 1990, I googled to see what would pop up and I’m so happy to find someone who also remembers those scones. I actually began working there right after Dianne sold the restaurant and they were still making those scones until it was sold again a few years later. I wish I had gotten that recipe…!!!!
