Pink Adobe Closes in Santa Fe

November 17, 2010

Pink Adobe Menu

There probably isn’t anyone  who cooked in  Santa Fe who hasn’t worked in Rosealee Murphy’s Pink Adobe at some point or another. That’s where I learned to make pies and how to make a living while making art. The Dragon Bar was the end of the Santa Fe Trail for me every time I came home from one disastrous attempt after another to live in the real world.

“The Pink” closed this month, ending a  66 year run, a victim of the economy like most of us. Sold in 2007 to the Vermont-based Garrett Hotel Group, the restaurant filed Chapter 11 in June. Locals say it was the change in menu that sent one of Santa Fe’s finest into oblivion. Maybe it’s just that dens of iniquity like the Dragon Room, once named by International Newsweek has named the Dragon Room Lounge as one of the top 19 bars in the world, are going out of fashion.

Yes, there is good fortune. I’m so glad it is coming back!

Somethings are just too classic to disappear, aren’t they? Now if only the weather holds out, I’m planning on being at the reopening to take photos and eat.

Which comes first? Take photos or eat?

Actually, Karen, I think there is a third option: do both at once! Hope all is well. Worry about you up there.

Have a new project that may pay off in the new year. Cottonwoodcenterforthearts.com needed a webmaster and all around art hustler. Just up my alley, wouldn’t you say? Great people, great art that I hope finds it’s way into my life as barter and a chance to flex my online chops a bit. Can’t think of a better place to donate my skills and time while looking for employment. Plus they throw a wonderful potluck.

Good! Gosh, you have such drive, such energy. I know it will pay off.

Girl’s gotta make a living so selling at the flea market when the weather is good. I’ve made you a friend of my newest project Cottonwoood Center for the Arts. Plus we need the class of your blog and our artists need to read your stuff.
